Dillinger heavy plate for
the Clair Ridge platforms

Made 100% of Dillinger steel: Dillinger covered the overall need for heavy plates.

Clair Ridge is the second phase of the Clair Field development in the North Sea. The Clair field is located 75 km west of the Shetland Islands and extends over an area of 220 km2, in water depths of approximately 459 feet (140 m).

The second development phase involves the installation of two platforms linked by a 60 m long bridge: an eight-legged drilling and production platform and a four-legged quarter and utility platform. Clair Ridge, with estimated recoverable oil reserves of 640 million barrels over its 40-year lifespan, is expected to produce 120,000 b/d of crude oil beginning in 2017.

Innovative and environmentally friendly

Clair Ridge is the first sanctioned large-scale offshore enhanced oil recovery (EOR) scheme using reduced salinity water injection to extract a higher proportion of oil over the life of the field. With this new technology the operator expects to reach and extract significant oil reserves stocked further deep in the rocks far below the seabed, which are impossible to remove with conventional water-flooding techniques. Thus, 42 million additional barrels of oil should be collected.

Clair Ridge will be developed using the latest technology to reduce the environmental impact. The platforms will be powered by dual-fuel power generators, incorporating waste heat recovery technology.

As for the first Clair platform (supply of 22,000 t) Dillinger heavy plates play again an essential role in this innovative and challenging field development.
