Dillinger heavy plate for the
De Oversteek bridge

“de Oversteek” – A bridge, perfectly integrated in its surrounding

„De Oversteek“, how the new city bridge in Nijmegen (The Netherlands) is called, was built in the years 2011 – 2013 to connect the two expanding suburbs on the northern and southern banks of the river Waal. It has a modern, filigree and slim steel superstructure, while its massive approach bridges, which are in fact due to its semi integral architecture technically up to date, should optically remind of old massive medieval arch bridges.

However, the architectonical highlight of the whole bridge construction is the modern steel arch bridge. It has a span of 285 m and crosses the river channel Waal with a spectacular network construction. For this monumental structure work Dillinger delivered 1,600 t heavy plates, among approximately 320 t of high strength steel S690QL (Dillimax 690 T).
