Dillinger heavy plate for the
Ennëus Heerma Bridge
DI-MC for the most elegant arches
The 230 meter long Ennëus Heerma Bridge at IJburg, in the Netherlands, designed by Britain’s Nicholas Grimshaw & Partners firm of architects, is considered one of Europe’s finest, and is the first of a number of such structures which will link islands newly created in the IJsselmeer inland sea by a land reclamation project. This is precisely the origin of the bridge’s streamlined appearance – it is intended to remind the observer of the bodily forms of marine animals, and that this newly won land was formerly part of the seabed. Thermomechanically rolled DI-MC fine-grained steel from Dillinger, with its mechanical strength and good working properties, enabled the transformation of this light-as-air architectural vision into reality.
