Dillinger heavy plate for the
railroad bridge over the Oder near Küstrin-Kietz

Dillinger steel for a construction with symbolic character for a united Europe

The new arched bridge in Küstrin-Kietz, which crosses the Oder, connects Germany with Poland and replaces two single-track truss bridges built in 1926. It represents a considerable improvement for cross-border traffic; in addition to higher loads, the bridge can now be crossed at speeds of up to 120 km/h, four times higher than before. With its eye-catching arch construction, it harmoniously fits into the landscape and offers a robust and sustainable solution for the growing traffic requirements.

Impressive example of modern engineering

The architecture of the bridge is characterized by its elegant arch construction, which combines both aesthetic and functional aspects. The main bridge is 266m long with a 130m long pier-free network arch. By using heavy plate, the architects and engineers were able to create a structure that, despite its delicate appearance, has enormous load-bearing capacity to withstand the loads caused by traffic and environmental influences in the long term. The material makes it possible to build the arch with a minimal number of piers and struts. An additional special detail are the struts made of carbon instead of steel, which makes the Oder Bridge the first railroad bridge of its kind in the world.

Overall, the new railroad bridge in Küstrin-Kietz impressively combines functionality and design, with heavy plate as the central construction material forming the basis for its structural integrity. The bridge therefore not only represents an important transport connection, but also modern architecture and engineering at the highest level.

For this modern bridge, Dillinger supplied around 31000 tons of heavy plate, including thermomechanically rolled and high-strength structural steels, in thicknesses ranging from 8 to 100 mm.
