Dillinger heavy plate for the
Rampion offshore wind farm
First offshore wind farm off the south coast of England
With the offshore wind farm Rampion which went into operation in April 2018, a further North Sea’s wind farm has its foundations on steel from Dillinger. Rampion is located in the English Channel,
13 km from the Sussex coast. It is the first offshore wind farm off the south coast of England.
Spread over 72 km², the wind farm is equipped with 116 Vestas V112-3.45 MW wind turbines with an installed capacity of 400 MW generating almost 1,300 GWh of power per year. This is equivalent to the amount of electricity used annually by almost 350,000 British homes, or around half the homes in Sussex. According to the operator 600,000 t CO2 emissions are also expected to be saved per year.
Dillinger supplied around 93,200 t of thermomechanically rolled (TM) plates with plate thicknesses of up to 100 mm for the monopile foundations.
