Dillinger heavy plate for the
school complex Leutschenbach
Innovative and transparent school architecture – awarded the European Steel Design Award 2011
The new building of the school complex Leutschenbach in Zurich has maxed out the limits of architectonical and static feasibility. Design and statics went hand in hand. The result of this collaboration is an out-sticking glass cube, born by a visible steel framework, structured by the small floor slabs and crowned by an all-around glazed gym.
The floating and heaven reflecting building gives distinction to its surrounding without dominating it. As the steel framework changes in every functional unit of the school, the different units form statically and architectonically a vivid and polymorphic entity.
Dillinger has delivered for this architectonically distinguished building circa 900 t heavy plates, mainly of the thermomechanically rolled grade S460M.
