Dillinger heavy plates
for the Abdelmoumen pumped storage power plant
Dillinger steel for the Abdelmoumen pumped storage power plant
Another pioneering project for environmentally friendly and fast energy to stabilise the grid has been realised in Morocco: the Abdelmoumen pumped storage power plant
The plant was commissioned in 2022 and contributes to stabilising the power grid with an output of 175 megawatts.
A total of 9,600 tonnes of high-quality Dillinger steel were used for the over two-kilometre-long water pipeline that forms the heart of the power plant. The pipeline overcomes a height difference of 554 metres and extends over a length of 700 metres. The diameter of the pipelines varies between 3.50 and 5 metres, with wall thicknesses of 20 to 100 millimetres.
Plates were supplied for the pressurised pipelines, for junctions and special sickle plates. The high-strength steel grades S500 QL, S690 QL and S690 ML were used. A particular advantage for the customer was the preparation of the welding edges on our in-house edge milling machine. This enabled quick and precise assembly of the pipework directly on site – welding could be carried out immediately after forming.
We are pleased to be able to offer our customers customised solutions that not only guarantee the highest quality, but also significantly reduce assembly costs.
